Mary Hardy was a contemporary of the famous clerical diarist James Woodforde (1740–1803). He wrote only a few miles away but led a totally different life. His diary has been published in full by the Parson Woodforde Society.

The diarist’s village of Letheringsett in north Norfolk is only a mile from the old town of Holt with its attractive 18th-century buildings. Read about Holt’s architectural features, and many other aspects, in the vividly pictorial website of the Holt Society.
